Spring 

The Black Hills comes back to life when spring rolls around, expect more greenery than the winter and fall months. The weather is mild – between 50 to 60 degrees during the day and lows dropping to 45 degrees or below freezing at night. Travelers can expect more rain in the late spring, so pack a rain jacket to keep you staying dry during your Black Hills vacation! 

Summer 

Summer is one of the most popular times to visit the Black Hills. With the sun setting later, visitors have plenty of time to explore the state and national parks and hike the many trails in and around the Black Hills. Average temperatures reach up to 90 degrees during the day with lows at night dropping to 60 degrees. 

Fall  

Marked by the crisp autumn air and the leaves changing colors, fall in the Black Hills is another popular time to visit the area. Many take trips to the Black Hills to view the fall foliage while cruising through Spearfish Canyon. Temps in the fall average around the high 50’s during the day and mid-40’s at night.  

Winter 

The winter months are best for those looking for some fresh powder to ski or snowboard. The average temps in January average below 32 degrees and drop to 10 degrees. Pack your winter gear to stay warm and cozy during your Black Hills vacation.
