Looking for a fun indoor activity in the Black Hills? Black Hills escape rooms are one of the area’s best weather-proof experiences, whether afternoon thunderstorms derail your hike or you want something to do after a day of sightseeing. You’ll find them right in Deadwood and in downtown Rapid City.
Escape rooms are a hit with families traveling with older kids, friend groups, couples and wedding parties. This page is part of our guide to indoor activities in the Black Hills.

Tips for a Black Hills Escape Room
01
Plan on 90 minutes
Games run about an hour, plus check-in, rules and a debrief afterward.
02
Bring 2 to 8 players
Most rooms are built for small groups, and some cap out at six.
03
Book ahead in summer
Summer weekends and evening slots fill first, especially downtown.
04
Arrive 10 minutes early
You will need time to sign waivers and hear the rules before the clock starts.

Pair an Escape Room with Your Stay
Spend the morning at Mount Rushmore, hike a trail in the afternoon, then head indoors for an evening of puzzles. It is also a great backup plan when a summer storm rolls through the hills.
