If you’ve chosen the Black Hills as your spring break vacation destination, you’ve made a great choice!  There is plenty to keep the family entertained during your visit and whether you choose to do that indoors or outdoors, the area supplies ample opportunity to enjoy both. After your day of adventuring, retreat back to your Black Hills cabin rental to relax!

Black Hills Spring Break Activities

For those who want to set out on an adventure, Custer State Park is home to an abundance of wildlife, hiking & biking trails, and fishing. Hike the popular Cathedral Spires Trail and admire the unique rock formations, or for a shorter, family-friendly hike, the Sylvan Lake Shore Trail is a 1-mile loop that takes you around Sylvan Lake. If hiking is not your thing, but you still want to experience Custer State Park, we highly recommend Wildlife Loop Road, an 18-mile route that takes you through the park and gives you a chance to view bison, elk, coyotes, mule deer, and more. There are turnouts that allow you to stop and take in the views.

Another popular activity is driving the Spearfish Canyon State and National Forest Service Scenic Byway. This 19-mile stretch of road is home to Bridal Veil Falls and Roughlock Falls, incredible waterfalls that you don’t want to miss! And of course, one of the main reasons you’re visiting the area is for Mount Rushmore! During the early spring months, you’ll enjoy less crowds. Walk the Presidential Trail or visit the Sculptor’s Studio and get the full experience of Mount Rushmore National Park.

For indoor activities, visit the local businesses in and around Deadwood for souvenirs of your trip. The Black Hills Mining Museum is also a big hit.

Black Hills Spring Events

Join us for some of the Black Hill’s spring events! If you’re visiting in April, the Forks, Corks & Kegs Food and Wine Festival will be held in mid-April. For foodies, beer and wine lovers, this is the perfect event for you.
